On 17th October 2019 in Gabrovo, a meeting with the participants in the Initiative for introducing climate change and energy efficiency education in Bulgarian schools and kindergarten took place. Among the participants were representatives of the Regional education management unit and Municipal administration of Gabrovo. The initiative is supported by the German Federal ministry of the environment through the European climate initiative (EUKI). The present headmasters and teachers were introduced to the set of measuring tools, used for the work of the school energy teams and took part in the first demonstrative energy tour of Primary school “Neofit Rilski”. Each participating school and kindergarten from Gabrovo received for free a set of the tools. They were provided also with the study materials in digital format. In Gabrovo the following schools take part in the initiative: “Vasil Levski”, “Sv. Sv. Kiril and Metodii”, “Ivan Vazov”, as well as Kindergarten “Mladost”.
The national trust ecofund is the leading partner for Bulgaria in this initiative, which started in 2016 with only four schools in two municipalities, expanding to 15 schools in 4 municipalities. Currently 50 schools and kindergartens from 12 municipalities take part.
In the following weeks the team of NTEF will visit each of the schools and kindergartens in order to deliver the necessary materials. The schools, with the support of their respective municipalities and Regional education management units, implement the initiative as “Classes by interest”, an extracurricular form, included in their annual plans and budgets.
